Herald and News environmental reporter earns prestigious award

Herald of Everett Washington is the 2014 first place winner in the annual Dolly Connelly Excellence in Environmental Journalism, sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Association.

However, this year, the judges decided to do a second place award, which goes to Lacey Jarrell of the Klamath Falls Herald & News for her “Aquatic Transplant” story.

“Lacey Jarrell’s “Aquatic Transplant story – was well as her two other exceptional entries – is evidence of big league work by a small daily,” Hughes added.

Joel Connelly, who writes for SeattlePI.com and endowed the award, praised Jarrell. “We gave the nod to lucid advocacy writing with the Herald, and vivid explanatory writing by Lacey Jarrell in the Klamath Falls Herald & News,” said Connelly.
